Curfew sweeps have been used to target people of color both during school and protests. These sweeps have not been shown to reduce crime, but instead give police overreaching power to limit 1st and 4th Amendment rights.

In 1995, the Los Angeles City Council passed an ordinance instituting a daytime curfew for youth under the age of 18.
